How could I forget your delightful gifts that forced me to awkwardly offer pieces of cupcake to my office mates after I had already inhaled half of it?
But then-you big softie! You brought everyone cupcakes. Awww!!
It’s my dear friend Alina’s birthday today and I’m trying to think of what to give her to celebrate. Maybe a bunch of yummy cupcake’s from Baked by Melissa on 14th st and I could take her out for drinks and we’ll party the night away!!
Then I began thinking about birthday celebrations in general. Nothing says I love you and am glad you’re alive and in my life like gifts of obesity, diabetes, heart disease… Then I questioned whether or not I was taking myself too seriously. Yes, yes I am, I am incredibly uptight and sensitive this week. At least I admit it.
Mom’s away on business, so naturally we’re snuggled up with a bowl of double buttery theater popcorn and “The Princess and the Frog.” Bedtime? Pfft. Maybe after ice cream sundaes and cupcakes. Maybe. (Taken with instagram)
LMK if you need help with sundae toppings, I’m a pro. Just don’t sell me out if Sherry asks…
INVERTED RED VELVET CUPCAKES!!!! Courtesy of Jane’s kids and Sprinkles cupcake mix. Imagine all of the things you could put in there!
I mean, I’m heading up that way in 10 minutes anyway. Cupcake time?
Speaking of women… I was reading the Times today and came across this tidbit:
“One of those winemakers, Cupcake Vineyards of Soledad, Calif., seems to be achieving notable success by marrying its label with the same cupcake craze “Sex and the City” helped foment. Is there another winemaker on earth that offers Red Velvet (a blend of zinfandel, merlot and cabernet)? Or describes its sauvignon blanc as having “a vibrant zing, reminiscent of a lemon chiffon cupcake”? Now, Cupcake has added flavored vodkas, with names like Chiffon, Devil’s Food and Frosting.” (click here for full article)
Not that this is at all related to fashion per se, but it’s related to culture/style/discourse etc and so I’m going to talk about it for one moment.
Does anyone else find this offensive? I do, and on two counts. First, as a woman.. obviously. Second, as an aesthetically oriented human. Cupcakes on wine labels? What is wrong with these people? They are perpetuating not only misogynistic stereotypes, but really dreadful design concepts! Ugh.
Yes. Isn’t there something similar happening w a vodka brand right now too? It is insulting. I love cupcakes, wine and especially love vodka but market to me like I’m an easily amused 6 year old.
Side note: I think that horrible show has ruined so many wonderful feminine possibilities, I can’t enjoy anything-from cupcakes to cocktails to shoes without having to endure references to that cheesy, condescending show.
I’m taking this idea and applying it to everything I can. Push up mashed potatoes, push up cookie dough, push up frosting, push up vegan chicken salad, push up raw revolution bars, push up fruit cup…

On the way to work this morning I saw a man carrying an enormous red velvet cupcake in a box with see through windows. It was a cupcake the size of a medicine ball. Isn’t that called “cake” not “cupcake”? I resisted the urge to tackle him and run off with his cupcake but now can’t stop looking at cupcake images.
