Hello, I am majoring in fashion merchandising and minoring in mass comm, and business. I want to work in Fashion Public Relations. Can you tell me what a work day is usually like for you? What do you actually do in fashion PR? and any type of advice would be great. Thanks :) - Jasmine
Each day is different depending on where time lies in the fashion calendar. Right now it’s the week before Christmas in Santa’s Workshop. Fashion week does not yield to bank holidays, so today I:
Woke up at 6 to begin plowing through the couple hundred emails I accumulated after going to bed at 1. Mostly requests from editors, interoffice correspondence regarding runway shows
Will get to the office between 9-10:30, finalize lists on FashionGPS for 3 runway shows/2 presentations. 2 of them are big with high demand for access, which makes it difficult to cut the list down to the amount of seats available
Will write biweekly reports for clients of all of my activities for each account, press clippings, sample loans-which involves meeting with the sample closet and graphics department
Send lists to be printed on labels, stuck on envelopes and sorted into hand delivered/US post piles
Around noon I will be drowning in seating charts. Again-the big shows are tough
Around 7 the invites should be set, I’ll visually inspect to make sure they look ok and are ready to go Tues am
Back to seating charts
9 or 10pm meet super cool social media manager for one of my accounts for drinks to discuss fashion week strategy
An hour later-back to the office-seating charts
Midnight-1am (hopefully) go home, go to bed, dream about seating charts.
Tuesday: Model casting, fittings, hair & make up tests, seating charts. It varies. Best of luck with your future in fashion!!
