ps! Some info/an article on Abner Jay over at the Guardian.
Abner Jay, I’m so depressed
Every boy needs a girl
Every girl needs a boy
I’m a boy so full of love
I have no one to hold my hand
Despite its title and the mind blowing lyrics I posted above, this song isn’t depressing at all. Abner Jay dominated the playlist at our “hurricane party” last night. I may have posted this song in the past but it’s worth re-posting.
This just in! One of our fave designers, Charlotte Ronson—(yes, Sam’s sister), is expanding to beauty! The collection hits a Sephora near you next month, and we got a sneak peek of the goodies last night at the celebratory dinner, seated next to Hollywood starlets (Nicole Richie, the Hilton sisters, Rashida Jones, etc.) galore.
Check out the party pics and get ready for a fresh new fall beauty look soon:
"the guilt will be gone by the time I reach the building", are you really proud of yourself because you care more about planning a party than the lives of helpless people who are in need of life's BASIC necessities?
I find this 26 minute lecture especially valuable in reminding me to stay out of the impact zone of life, to have a game plan, to practice non-attachment..etc…
Specifically, this (approx 18 mins in) helps:
In the information age it’s almost heretical to not be doing much. And to be systematically uninformed. Okay. To be systematically uniformed. To not be reading the paper every five seconds and to be on cnn and downloading information all the time. What do you need to know for? …if youre unclear on the concept that suffering is everywhere. there’s suffering in afghanistan there’s suffering in carson city there’s suffering in Hawai’i even. Suffering with palm trees. Suffering with nice blue oceans. There’s suffering everywhere. If you’re unclear on that well then inform yourself, but then stop! Once you’re clear on the fact why do you need to know the details of it? Are you going to do something about it? Are you going to go to Afghanistan and actually try to help people there? Well then inform yourself. But if it’s just another way to keep yourself amused if it’s another way to keep boredom from the door the dreaded boredom, I think boredom is the thing we fear the most in our society. In our time and place. We fear not being entertained all the time. Of being alone and quiet And a yogi, of course, by definition has learned how to be alone and quiet. Pratyahara. That’s what pratyahara means. Pratyahara means you’ve turned things off. Pratyahara means that you’ve withdrawn; that you’re not constantly bombarded by information. So thats Samadhi.
“… studies show that people with the best self-control are the ones who structure their lives so as to conserve willpower. They don’t schedule endless back-to-back meetings. They avoid temptations like all-you-can-eat buffets, and they establish habits that eliminate the mental effort of making choices. Instead of deciding every morning whether or not to force themselves to exercise, they set up regular appointments to work out with a friend. Instead of counting on willpower to remain robust all day, they conserve it so that it’s available for emergencies and important decisions.”—
“You’d only be a bad hooker if you talked during the post coital movie.”—
Meanwhile. Oh nevermind. Add “you forgot to mention that every time you come over to my place you break something” If by break you mean bring food, put in the refrigerator, make better, cleaner and generally radiate divine light. Then yeah, totally agree.
An idiotic male model teams up with another idiotic male model and a girl to take down the evil fashion industry who are attempting to kill the prime minister of Malaysia in order to continue using child labor in that country. The male models win and learn that there is more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking.
Neither Ben Stiller nor Owen Wilson is ridiculously good looking.
confession: favorite movie of all time, if I come across it I can’t walk away. I know…i know…
